General Information!

Jim McMillan: Teacher, ex-scoutmaster, research engineer, inventor & designer has developed a unique camp combining Electronics, R/C Planes, Hellicoptors and Creative Art projects. Campers develop hands-on mechanical and electronics skills and build many original and quality take home projects. This is a different, inexpensive, one-of-a-kind fun camp taught by a creative professional passing on his skills to the next generation.

To guarantee success & a fun experience we help campers select projects within their abilities. Any skills needed, such as, soldering, basic electronics, tool use, etc are taught as needed.
Special Skills Option:
for those age 11 and over who want to become a paid helper. Includes using Metal & Plastics Benders, Belt Sander, Drill Press and other small tools safely.

Camp Hours: Helpers need to arrive each day by 8:30 to set up, Camps are from 9:00 to 4:30 Mon-Thurs. Supervised early drop off (8/after) &/or late pickup (before 5:15) will be $10/week/camper - pay instructor on first day of camp, there will be something for them to do.

Camp Registration: For 2015 Camps are now closed: Use Paypal Cart in session descriptions.
We will be going to a new location in 2016.

Live far away: Get some friends together and carpool or spend a week in Dallas with a
               friend, bring your friends with you to camp

Bring:    Sack lunch & snacks, money if need to buy drinks (no candy machines).

No sharp objects, Monster or energy drinks allowed . Put your name on anything                  valuable. KLC/NBC Church is not responsible for your personal property.

Needed:     6-freq NIKKO R/C Cars for WarBots Camps (working/not). Contact us if
                     you have one in any condition (also need parts for repairs).

                     Kinetic Learning Center, started these camps 23 years ago

Break times:   Twice a day, plus lunch, games or movies available during breaks.
                     We have 3D & BlueRay DVD players & one of Jim's inventions: 'No Glasses' 3D
                     capability on a Big screen. If you have a good 'safe' family movie to loan (or
                      donate to the camp) bring it.

Age Rules:
    [updated for 2015]


Age 7.5          Contact Jim to see if they can attend. May qualify for some of the basic sessions
but must pay close attention, be able to follow directions and not bother other campers.


Age 8+       can attend any of the sessions, we separate the younger & older campers when possible.





Qualifications to be a Helper:

* I need at least 2 trained helpers (and one volunteer) available each week.
* You get great experience, leadership training and learn to handle stress!
* I need helpers willing to work and learn, this is invaluable training.
* Older helpers are prefered. You must be smart, have technical & people skills,
   be able to think on your feet, work under pressure and not make mistakes.
* Helpers must quickly and accurately figure out problems, give helpful solutions
   and move on. If you don't know the answer, find someone who does!
* If you lack the necessary skills consider asking to be a Volunteer and take the 'Kit
    Building' sessions - you can't help others if you've never done it yourself!


* First priority - Experienced helpers from past camps, Bonus pts if 16 or older,
          or have a car & can go for parts or food.
* Next priority - past helpers or have with at least 2 yrs in Tech Sci class
* Volunteers (age 10+) work to gain experience and be trained, those that do good work
           
will be paid something. Experienced helpers $30-$50, #1 Helper: $100 plus/wk
* Note: Helpers are not allowed to build projects, if you wish to attend a session just
           let me know in advance so I can replace you for that session.
* Needed: Up to 3 helpers ea wk, duties include set-up, helping as needed & to clean-
            up. Hrs 8:00-5:30. Let me know in adv if you need to come in late or leave early.
* Send Resumes ASAP! What skills do you have that would qualify you to be a helper.
          What sessions can you work? Pay is based on your age, knowledge, skills and

Jun  15-18        Soldering Art   ages 8 & up  $200

Inventors/Artist - Boys & girls of all ages love these fun sessions. Soldering techniques are the most important elements needed to build successful projects and kits. The two 'Art' sessions teach these basic to expert level skills.We have thousands of new (& some used) parts that can be turned into exciting creations. Soldering skills, Basic to Advanced , will be taught to those who need it.

Click here to see examples of Electronic-Art. Become a soldering expert! It's fun and really helps if taking most other sessions, especially the 'Projects & Kit Building' sessions or my Fall classes. The many hours in camp allows you to learn the skills necessary to build higher quality and more successful take home projects.

      Gadgets & Gizmos     ages 8 & up    $225

Both boys & girls will love both of these sessions. You will learn the skills and techniques needed to create and build fun and imaginative projects. They will build fantastic high quality items that they keep. Examples can be seen on our website, KLC Pics: (to be added) more details coming...

Jun 29-Jul 2       Electronic-Art    ages 8 & up   $225

Inventors/Artist - Boys & girls of all ages will love this Fun session. Soldering skills are the most important component of project and kit building. The 'Art' sessions teach the skills, concepts and techniques needed to create and build fun and imaginative projects. We have thousands of parts (most are new) that can be turned into exciting creations. Soldering and other skills, basic to advanced, will be taught to those who need them.

Advanced students can add DC motors, gears, chains & LED's to enhance their designs. They can build fantastic creative projects that move, blink or buzz and interact with the viewer. Learn special concepts, tricks & special techniques and build fun projects that you keep. Many different projects both electrical and mechanical will be available.

Special projects optional: pay $25 at camp if choose.: (1) Special reversible low RPM motor can be used to power projects. (2) Jims Special design 'HexBug' Robots made from electronics parts & a phone vibrator motor. See pic on homepage! Click to see samples of Electronic Art. Learn basic to expert soldering techniques and tricks! It's fun and really helps to build quality projects' or if taking my classes this Fall. In camp you have plenty of time to build special projects not possible to do in one hour school classes.

July 6-9      Creative Projects    ages 8 & up   $250

This session includes: over 45 beginner to expert projects - basic electronic, mechanical & soldering skills taught to those who need it. Experienced, T&G builders may bring their own projects &/or build ours. New and improved projects are added each year! To guarantee success and a fun camp experience we help each camper select projects within their skill range. Go to 'KLC Pictures' to see kit examples. We try to find or design new electrical & mechanical projects each year. A list of the kits, skill levels and cost will be available at camp. If new to building projects we will teach you everything you need to know. Examples of projects: 4-position Voice Changer, The IC mini robot (like 'Hex Bug'), a reversible DC motor control kit (with motor), The Super-Snooper (hear through walls), "Lie Detector", Robot Bug, Siren, Rolling message board, Wheel of Fortune, Strobe light, Knight Rider LED show, LED Lazar toys & new ones for this year as well.

How Kit Building Session works: Your first $25 materials & kit fee is included in Reg. it's enough for beginners, fast learners or experienced builders can buy extra projects or bring their own. We will help campers select projects within their skill level and they can work at their own pace. We will help when needed. Campers must demonstrate required skills to build the harder projects.

Jul 13-16         Things that Fly:   
ages 8 & up  $250 (inc $25 MF)

The most popular session each Summer - no special skills required!
Please register for this FUN session early - only 20/session allowed this year.
We'll have great projects this year including a Big Screen flight simulator. We will build & launch all kinds of things that fly, float or glide through the air such as: Design & build paper & Balsa wood planes (and have a flying contest), Build long distance (100+ yds) and acrobatic Power Gliders, X-zylo flying loops, Hand Arrows, R/C planes, Helicopters and a Hover Craft. Launch the 2-ltr Water Rocket and shoot a Potato Cannon. Other possible projects include a Rocket Car, Water balloon Slinger Wars (launchs over 100 ft), Small Rockets. About 18-20 projects are being planned. We always have two many to do them all. In session 6 you CAN build & battle a WarBot, I only have a few left.

You may build or modify anything we have offered this summer or in our school classes as long as parts are available. Examples: Electronic/Action Art, Kit Building, Learn Basic Electronics or Soldering skills, modify warbots, play video games, etc... Instructor will bring all kinds of things too valuable to throw away but needing a new home. You can bring stuff as well and we'll have a swap, barter and trade day! E-mail Jim if you have a special request so he'll have time to collect the needed parts. All projects will be available in this session! Last chance to build or modify a WarBot, I only have a few of the 6-freq WaBot kits that you can build and I will sell a few of my WarBot Prototypes if anyone is interested.

Aug 10-13     Things that Move    ages 8 & up   $250

The most popular session each Summer - no special skills required!

We'll have great projects this year including a Big Screen flight simulator.
